I Am Chosen

This year I really had it pressed on my heart to remind the daughters of God, just who they are to Him.
I don’t know about you but for me, I need the reminder. There are days I’m worn out, over routine, sick and tired of hearing my name a hundred times. I don’t always feel beautiful, I don’t always have my best smile on, and sometimes I might be going through something so painful and honestly, in those times I struggle to see my worth.
I’m not going to say this is going to be an easy journey, but once you settle these truths into your spirit, never again will you stay in a place of uncertainty.
Over the next few months, I want you to truly hold onto, meditate and absorb the truth of Our Heavenly Father. I want you to go from Am I? To knowing without doubt and declaring I Am!
So today I want to start with the first truth.
I AM CHOSEN!
Okay, let that sink in… God chose YOU! Before you were even formed in the womb, our Heavenly Father chose you. He had a plan and purpose for your life, before you ever breathed your first breath!
I don’t want to admit this, but I was that girl throughout school that was chosen last. It wasn’t that I was terrible at sport, because I was actually pretty good at it. It wasn’t that I was terrible at music, because I was great at that too. What the problem was, is that I was always the new kid and the older I got, the harder it was to just enter a new place and fit in. At my last school, which was number 13, I remember six months into it asking God, "when will I be chosen first, or second, or even third?" Because in honesty, my self worth took a nose dive, as everyone else was called up to make teams or groups and there I was, still sitting on my own just praying I wasn’t chosen dead last.
As the years rolled on and I grew into womanhood, those memories still popped up from time to time, reminding me that I was rejected in those awkward high school days. It made me realise how much I longed to be first in someone’s life, desired and truly seen. And so began an unhealthy search for friendships and relationships that may have not been the best of decisions. Every time I heard that my friends had caught up without me, I felt like the girl who was picked last for teams once again. Every time someone else was chosen for a position in the workplace I had being trying so hard for, again the rejection rose to the surface.
I’m not going to say that I had some lightbulb moment and my thinking changed. It actually took me well into my thirties to really find my identity in Christ. Oh, but when I did and I began to soak in God’s promises to us all in His word, my life began to change. When I truly realised I AM CHOSEN, I was reading the book of Esther, verse 4:14. It wasn’t so much the scripture I had been reading, but the thought God placed in my mind right after, that sent me on the quest to discovering and claiming who I was to God.
Each and every person of the bible was chosen. Each one had been selected by God to carry out His purpose. Not because they were talented, or super smart, or the greatest player on their sports team. No, they were chosen because first of all, God loved them. Just as He loves us. Second of all, even with some hard nudges at times, they chose to do His work. You see we aren’t chosen due to good works, and merit by our own hands and we certainly did not choose God first, because it clearly states in John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you.” No, we were created and chosen to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father, and to love as He first loved us.
Like Esther, and David, Moses, Abraham, Ruth, Rahab and all the rest of the beautifully flawed characters in the living word, you were chosen. You have a purpose and you are truly wanted by the God of creation! Yes, you are that special, a part of His team, His family, and most of all seen…How awesome is that thought?
Read through the scriptures below and repeat to yourself daily until you truly believe it, I AM CHOSEN!
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.- John 15:16
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.- Ephesians 1:4
Dear God,
I thank you that you chose me to love. As I go about life, I pray that I always have the truth in my heart that I am chosen by you, to love, to walk out your purpose and to bless and remind others of your promises.
In Jesus name, Amen.
