Get Passionate!

I love the word Passionate! It stirs something in me, and lifts my spirit, because when I think of passion, I think about what motivates me, what gets me up in the morning.
For a long time I went about my life, working any job I could find as I moved about and changed cities. Honestly my life was nothing but routine. Get up, get dressed, make my coffee to go, work all day, drive home, cook dinner and then go to bed. Day in day out, it was always the same.
I remember sitting on my bed one morning after doing the same kind of routine for years and saying to God. “Is this all my life is ever going to be? Will I never get to live a life filled with passion?” Those questions changed everything for me. So if you think that God isn’t listening then you are so wrong! Because when he moves, he moves, and my life definitely go the upheaval it needed.
Fast forward 12 years and I can honestly say, I am beginning to fulfil our Heavenly Father’s purpose for me. I have an amazing husband, three beautiful children, friends I adore, I write books that make me happy, I get to sing and worship, mix with other women, most of all I get to help those God calls me to go after. No longer do I get up and question if this is my mundane existence, where I felt no joy. I’m filled with joy!
First of all, I believe that everyone and I mean EVERYONE is passionate about something. When I say that to people, I hear, “I’m not good at anything” or “I’m not talented.” So why is it that when I say passionate, they think creative? And if I’m being honest, I also believe everyone can be creative, but that's for another blog post. No when I say passionate I mean, what gets you up in the morning? Is it your job? Your family? A mission you support? Do you long to change the world?
Here are some of the things that describe passion: intense, fiery, emotional, spirited, wild, impassioned.
You see passion is what drives us to step out and make things happen, because it is a very real part of what encourages us to keep moving forward, a goal we strive to work towards. We all have something we are passionate about, so while reading this I ask you to think about one thing that you are passionate about and how you can impact the lives of others with it, because I want you take hold of the next part of this blog, it’s going to change how you see life.
I love the Gospels! If it involves reading about the walk of Jesus, I am all over it. When I have a rough week and I really don’t feel like I want to be preached too, or I feel as if God isn’t close to me, I force myself to read the Gospels. At first I struggle, but as I continue to read, it’s as if I begin to see the heart of our saviour leap off the pages, and penetrate my spirit.
One thing that jumps out to me is his passion for people. So much passion…
He teaches them, gives them his time, heals them, casts out demons, even raises them from the dead. Everything he does he shows the Father’s love! And the more I read, the more I realise what our first passion should be…
To love one another and show God’s love.
And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (John 13:34)
My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action. (1 John 3:18)
1 Peter 3: 8-9 you must all have the same attitude and the same feelings; love one another, and be kind and humble with one another. Do not pay back evil with evil or cursing with cursing; instead, pay back with a blessing, because a blessing is what God promised to give you when he called you.
There are so many more scriptures I could add to this, and I recommend you look them up and soak them in, because they will fill you with knowing and understanding. But here’s my take away from these passages…
We are to be the salt and light on this earth for God, to spread his word to those who need to hear it, to reach those who he longs to speak with. We are to be his light in the dark places, father’s to the fatherless, mothers to motherless, givers to the needy, friends to the friendless, forgive those who have wronged us and ask forgiveness for those we have wronged. But there is so much more than that!
We need to a friend to our friends, pray for them, check on them, love them! We need to be parents to our children, guide them, discipline, embolden them…love them! We need to support our partners, encourage them, walk beside them, love them!
Do you see where I’m going with this? Jesus passion was his love for us, but most importantly he teaches us through his story that His biggest motivation was not just to save us, but to introduce us and teach us to show God’s love to others through our actions!
So as you ponder this, I want you to ask yourself whether you are passionate about something and if first and foremost are you showing others how passionate Christ is in your life? I may write books, and poems, and sing, but I am very aware that my first calling is to show others how magnificent our Saviour is. I make it a daily thing, and when I wake up in the morning, I step outside and ask the Lord. “What is it you want me to do for you today?” I ask Him that because I want my passion filled life to put Him front and centre, before anything else.
Bless you
-Sarah
