5 Scriptures to Memorise

I'm nothing if honest when it comes to my struggle with memorising scriptures. Being busy with kids, running a household, ministry and shop, sometimes... I struggle to fit much more than ten minutes of Bible Study in. And even though my head is in the bible all day, I have a shocking memory.

I'm not lying when I say I'm seriously super bad at memorising. Don't even get me started on how long it takes me to remember someone's name, and phone numbers thanks to my mobile phone, I can barley remember my own!

But here's the thing, I have come to realise just how important the word of God is and how is vital it is to carry His very word in our heart, mind and spirit.

You see we have to put on the full armour of God daily, am I right? And it states clearly in Ephesians 6:17 where Paul states, "Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God." I find that in times of spiritual attack especially I'm of no use if I can't claim and speak the very words to fight the enemies attack.We need them at our disposal, a weapon ready to stand with in battle.

I hope to do a blog and taping on the full armour in the future because there is so much to cover and get excited about, but now I want to focus on simply starting to memorise. So today I bring you 5 scriptures to begin with that are some of my favourites and really special to me.

1.“Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.” - Psalm 46:10

2. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16

3. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. - Hebrews 11:1

4. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28

5. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. - Philippians 4:13

Now that I've given you my favourite scriptures to start with, there's more... because I made these starter scriptures into a printable download for you to print off, cut them up and use daily! Or, if you don't want to do that, you can simply write down a few scriptures you would like to choose and start with.

So how do we start memorising scripture? For me, I like to choose one scripture and stick it on my mirror and read it while I'm brushing my teeth and doing my hair in the morning. But you can choose somewhere else like your bedside table, the fridge or your car.

Once I've stuck it up I repeat it out loud a few times. I find by speaking it out, it makes it a lot easier to digest. And here's the thing, I keep it taped to my mirror until I can recite it without looking. Sometimes it's a few days, sometimes it's a few weeks. But what I want you to get from this is that it's okay no matter what pace you learn it at. You're trying and that's what matters. God sees your heart and effort. So enjoy the journey!

I pray this blessed you today. Don't forget to download your Scripture printable by clicking the link below and feel free to let me know how you go! And you can watch the YouTube video too!
